Hero claiming is a fun dimension that was added to our bulletin board by its original members in an effort to add a little pizazz to the JMBB. It is a game of sorts, and everyone that posts on the JMBB is invited to play. Anyone who would like to claim a JM character as their own is welcome to do so provided they meet eligibility requirements.
Now we know that you are probably wondering how to go about doing just that. Below are the answers to just about anything you could think of to ask...
How do I claim a JM hero?
Chances are your first choice - possibly even your second and third - is going to be taken. Why? Because the most desirable men were the first to go, of course! So before you set your heart on one particular man, we recommend that you visit the List of Claims. Once you've seen which men have been claimed, simply find one you want who is not already attached, and claim him with all possible haste! Be sure to check out the list of men on the Bachelor Gallery for some possibilities.
To make your claim official, simply notify MACC and appropriate steps shall be taken to document your claim in the List of Claims.
Once my claim is recorded, it's permanent, right?
Not quite. Your claim is only as permanent as your stay at the JMBB. Since there are far more DreadNaughts than there are available Heroes, you must adhere to the Claiming Guidelines in order to keep your claim on a man.
What exactly are the Claiming Guidelines?
Those of you who are interested in claiming a man (as well as those of you who have already claimed a man) must meet the following requirements:
1. You must have been a member of this BB for at least 30 days, and have
posted a minimum of 5 DAYS within those 30 days.
2. You must continue to post a minimum of FIVE (5) DAYS within the calendar
month.
The wives of main heroes must post a minimum of TEN (10) DAYS
within the calendar month. The following are main heroes:
♥ Spencer Addison ♥ Zachary Benedict
♥ Nicki Duville ♥ Matt Farrell
♥ Jason Fielding ♥ Ramon Galverra
♥ Cole Harrison ♥ Noah Maitland
♥ Nick Sinclair ♥ Ian Thornton
♥ Jordan Townsende ♥ Michael Valente
♥ Clayton Westmoreland ♥ Stephen Westmoreland
♥ Royce Westmoreland ♥ Mitchell Wyatt
Please note that the requirement is for 5 or 10 DAYS and not 5 or 10 times. If you post several times in the same day, these posts only count towards one day.

* These guidelines were based on a poll taken by the ladies of the JMBB. They have been established in order to make sure that the game of claiming remains fun and fair for everyone involved. If you know that you cannot meet the required number of posts, perhaps this is just not a game that you are able to play at this time. Whenever you are able to visit the JMBB more often, which is what we would like all of you to do, please feel free to jump right in and claim a man.
What if the JM Character I want is already claimed?
So what to do if the man of your dreams is already shacked up with someone else? Well, there's a good chance that you're just going to have to grin and bear it. After all, most of the heroes are quite happily married. However, as mentioned above, some of these delightful men occasionally become free again should the previous claimant no longer regularly posts at the board. In this instance, you might just want to throw your hat in the ring as a contender for his hand.
What happens when a JM hero is made available?
When the List of Claims has been updated, MACC will make an announcement on the JMBB regarding any newly available gentlemen. If a man you've had your eye on becomes eligible, you should state your interest at once!
Unfortunately this does not mean the two of you are free to hightail it to Gretna Green or Las Vegas.
Sad to say, but in the interest of fairness, an announcement is made on the JMBB stating the potential change in this man's marital status. Other ladies who are interested in him can state their intentions on the JMBB, and follow up with an email to MACC.
If only one DN expresses an interest in a man (on the JMBB and in an email to MACC) and no one else throws their hat into the tournament ring within a 72-hour period, then he is hers, free and clear.
HOWEVER, if more than one DN expresses an intent to claim the man, a Hero Competition is held to determine which lucky lady gets to be the lucky bride. These competitions (much like tournaments in the days of old, except now it is the women proving themselves worthy of the man) are trivia contests that show us who really knows the most about the man in question. The trivia comes from the book that said man was in. If he is in more than one book, the Ladies of MACC will determine which book the trivia will be from. Obviously whoever wins the competition, WINS THE MAN!!!
What if I have already claimed someone at the JMBB, but the man of my dreams suddenly becomes available?
Well since we don’t advocate continuously hopping from one marriage to another, we encourage you to follow your heart in the first place. However, we do understand that every once in a while an old love may come up as available and you may be tempted to throw your hat in the ring for him. In such circumstances we say go for it. Far be it for us to stand in the way of true love!
Do I have to give up my current husband before being able to compete?
While we understand that you may want to keep your current husband so that you have someone to fall back on, that really isn’t in the spirit of the game. So yes, you would have to give up your husband if you choose to compete for another man. However, out of the goodness of our hearts, MACC will give you one opportunity a year to place your current marriage on hold while you see if this new man is the one for you. However, should he fail to become the man of your dreams it is up to you to beg your husband’s forgiveness…and boy your explanation had better be good!
What if a lady is absent from the BB for an extended period of time?
Well, there are actually a myriad of things that could be going on in this instance, but more than likely it will be one of these two:
1. If someone is taking time off from the JMBB in order to go on a month long
safari or to deal with a personal tragedy (for example) we completely
understand their not being able to meet the posting requirements. Of course
their man will be held in safekeeping for an approximate period of up to 30
days until their return.
You are allowed to take ONE leave of absence within a 12-month period.
We respectfully ask any JMBB member wishing this kind of reprieve to simply
notify us in advance so we won't fear they've left for good.
2. If someone is simply absent from the JMBB (and not meeting posting
requirements) without notifying us about it in advance, they incur a strike for
that month. If they receive three strikes within a 12-month period, MACC
will free up their man so that others will have a chance to play the game.
As a point of clarification, we would like to specifically address how posting days are counted.
MACC uses the server time zone, i.e., "0" time offset in hours. We do our best to count all posting days, however, we do not have access to your time zone setting, and cannot always verify whether or not you posted immediately before or after midnight your time.
The time zone setting can make the difference in how we determine whether someone posted twice in one day, or once on two individual days. e.g., you may post on June 1st at 11:45 p.m. and June 2nd at 12:06 a.m. in your time zone. However, these posts may appear as June 1st at 10:45 p.m. and June 1st at 11:06 p.m. in MACC’s time zone.
Once you receive a strike, the burden of proving your posting days rests with you. If you believe that you received a strike in error, please do not hesitate to bring this to our attention so we can conduct a review.
To determine your time zone setting, click to “My Stuff” and then “My Preferences.” Scroll down to “Choose your time offset in hours: (..,-2,-1,0,1,2,..)” in the box underneath is your setting. Again, MACC’s time zone setting is set to "0".

* Please take note of MACC's does have a three-strike rule. We post a Strikes Thread on the JMBB on the first week of the month. We hope seeing your name on the thread prompts you back to the JMBB. If you incur your third strike, we have no choice but to free up your man. If you don’t have the time to play this game, we respectfully request that you free up your man for someone else who does. :)
Can I claim Kevin Costner or Harrison Ford since they are mentioned in Perfect, or King Henry from A Kingdom of Dreams?
Actually, no. In all honesty, this game of ours was invented so that we could all have fun with Judith McNaught's fictional characters. Since there are plenty of those to go around, let's keep it to characters that were invented by Judith herself.
Also, characters can only be claimed in the state that they appear in their books. For example, the children of heroes & heroines are indeed that, children, and are therefore, not eligible for marriage. So, yes, that means that there will be no claiming of the next Westmoreland heir. Sorry ;) Now, if Judith writes a novel for Noel and he is all grown up, then all's fair in love and war.
Is MACC in charge of games, chats or book discussions on the JMBB?
Actually, no. MACC is in charge of recording the marriages, presiding over the claiming guidelines and holding the marriage competitions. Anyone at any time can host a game, or book discussion - although currently the Discussion Divas are our official book discussion leaders - and in fact we encourage everyone to do so. We love playing games!
My question wasn't addressed here. What do I do?
If you have any questions regarding the claiming of a JM hero that you do not feel have been addressed, please do not hesitate to contact MACC at jmbb_macc@yahoo.com.
